Tomb of the Giants

Nuraghic period

Description of the site:
The tomb of the giants of Su Monte de s'Ape is just a few km from the Casteddu nuraghe and scarcely 10 m from Castello di Pedres.
Made up of a limited group of two courtyards and three regular rows of forms. The rock covering is entirely composed of enormous slabs. In the frontal section, 13 slabs have survived in the soil, constituting the 'l'Esedra', or loop, (the sacred area reserved for sacrifices and offerings). The tomb served, almost certainly, as a communal burial place of the Casteddu nuraghe. Of notable import is the length of the cell, over 18m, superior to that of all the other tombs which have currently been uncovered.

How to get there: From Olbia, take the strada provinciale for Loiri, after 3.3 km turn right. After 2 km one reaches a parking area under the Castello di Pedres, from where must be followed the brief pedestrian trail leading to the tomb. The site is freely accessible at all times.
