Sei nella sezione: Itineraries > Olbia and the surrounds
Less crowded, more romantic, almost solitary heading to Lido del Sole, slowly invaded by the presence of Germans at Porto Istana, the coast along the road that lead south is very different
to the opposite side of the town. In fact it is longer. Perhaps, more uniform in the type of sand,
Certainly full of surprises and opportunities.
1) Lido del Sole
In the sixties and seventies, Lido del Sole was the chic destination or "cult beach" because it hosted beauty and song competitions. Slowly this has disappeared even though there is no doubt regarding its beauty. It is 5 kilometres from the town centre , after crossing the bridge and passing the bend of Padrongianus, a crossroads indicates a deviation to the left for those arriving from Olbia. Less than a kilometre of tarmacked road and we arrive at the village itself. A small grove of eucalyptus dominates the few homes. The beaches stretches to the south. There is a working hotel and some service for whose who practice sailing. The sand is coarse, the water is immediately deep. But this does not prevent people who love a different kind of sea and a greater degree of privacy from going.

2) Le Saline
It is the longest and most popular beach to the south. It can be reached by car following the statale 125 (road 125) for 5 kilometres or by the bus n°5, which can be caught in Via Roma in town.(Aspo link). The sandy coastline is long and wide, the beach is clean and given its extension , not very crowded. You can, at any time of day or season, find a space in which you can relax without incumbent neighbours. The sea and the seabed in some parts are rich, luminous and gently sloping. In others, it presents sudden surges and dark depths. Therefore one must choose carefully where to stop, depending on your needs. The choice of The Saline is recommended for families and people who love peace, and prefer to be alone. There aren't any difficulties in parking.
3) Porto Istana
It is the furthest beach to the south of the town. Admired as a beach and confirming its beauty, unfortunately, we must admit that is necessary, to decide during the months of july and august
to limit the number of people. The alternative is not to find a space to stand. The overcrowding is
determined by many factors: firstly, the limited extension along the coast followed by, the excessive number of users of the surrounding villas and the uninterrupted influx of occasional visitors, attracted by the extraordinary scenery that you can enjoy admiring the opposite coast of the island of Tavolara. The beach is in fact a dazzling whiteness, the seabed is shallow and clear for hundreds of meters, and that is what few can resist. Having said this, it be reached following the statale 125 (road 125) for 8 chilometres.

4) Li Cuncheddi
Red rocks, sea abounding with fish, almost a Polynesian inlet near the protected promontory of Capo Ceraso (Cape Ceraso), "Li Cuncheddi" is a name of clear Gallura origins, indicating the sinuosity of the coast. You must take the same road that leads to Porto Istana, at eights kilometres from the town of Olbia, then take a rod which leads to the left. You then follow a road which is only tarmacked in sections, passing a complex of buildings, and behold, suddenly, the valley Li Cuncheddi is before you. As early as spring, you are struck by perfume from the ginestre (broom), eriche (heather), mimose (mimosas), and other Mediterranean plants.
Although it is close to Olbia , the position of the beach is secluded and protected. Shielded from behind by the promontory of Capo Ceraso. The inlet has crystalline waters; it is rich with fish and has a discreet service for whose who love beach equipment and sun beds. Great privacy and a rather small beach complete the picture. It is a gem for its habitués. (e.m.)
